Distributed Decoupling of Multiagent Simple Temporal Problems

چکیده
We propose a new distributed algorithm for decoupling the Multiagent Simple Temporal Network (MaSTN) problem. The agents cooperatively decouple the MaSTN while simultaneously optimizing a sum of concave objectives local to each agent. Several schedule flexibility measures are applicable in this framework. We pose the MaSTN decoupling problem as a distributed convex optimization problem subject to constraints having a block angular structure; we adapt existing variants of Alternating Direction Method of Multiplier (ADMM) type methods to perform decoupling optimally. The resulting algorithm is an iterative procedure that is guaranteed to converge. Communication only takes place between agents with temporal interdependences and the information exchanged between them is carried out in a privacy preserving manner. We present experimental results for the proposed method on problems of varying sizes, and demonstrate its effectiveness in terms of solving quality and computational cost.

Distributed algorithms for solving the multiagent temporal decoupling problem
Scheduling agents can use the Multiagent Simple Temporal Problem (MaSTP) formulation to efficiently find and represent the complete set of alternative consistent joint schedules in a distributed and privacy-maintaining manner. However, continually revising this set of consistent joint schedules as new constraints arise may not be a viable option in environments where communication is uncertain,...
متن کاملDecoupling the multiagent disjunctive temporal problem
The Multiagent Disjunctive Temporal Problem (MaDTP) is a general constraint-based formulation for scheduling problems that involve interdependent agents. Decoupling agents’ interdependent scheduling problems, so that each agent can manage its schedule independently, requires agents to adopt additional local constraints that effectively subsume their interdependencies. In this paper, we present ...
متن کاملMultiagent Planning with Partially Ordered Temporal Plans
This paper discusses the specifics of planning in multiagent environments. It presents the formal framework MAPL (“maple”) for describing multiagent planning domains. MAPL allows to describe both qualitative and quantitative temporal relations among events, thus subsuming the temporal models of both PDDL 2.1 and POP. Other features are different levels of control over actions, modeling of agent...
متن کاملOptimal temporal decoupling in multiagent systems
When agents need to interact in order to solve some (possibly common) problem, resolving potential conflicts beforehand is often preferred to coordination during execution. Agents may lose some flexibility, but their course of action will be more predictable and often also more efficient, obtaining a socially optimal outcome instead of a local optimum. One way to resolve conflicts beforehand is...
متن کاملA collaborative architecture for design evaluation and refinement
Since the birth of Expert Systems technology, multiagent systems have been studied and applied to solve real-world problems (Lesser & Herman 77). However, a flourishing multiagent or collaborative systems can be detected during last years. Blackboards systems (Engelmore & Morgan 88) have been developed with different control architectures and in many application areas. On the other hand, the ne...
